movies are 2D things !
That's what i love in Madagascar movies, even though it"'s 3d the framing is very strong! 50 storyboarders!
And this foundamental idea could be done in a 2d tool such as moho cause it's a 2D idea behind the 3d scene!

imho it really depends! smooth 3d and cut 2d is quicker to make than smooth 2d (disney) and cut 3d (madagascar movie) If you do it quickly, the default of each technic will be more visible. At best it should match the story meanings if possible (i choose the technics based on the storyboard! not pro...

mmmmm well it depends what you call 2d : it can take ageeeees too!
(from hand drawing pastels and cello to zbrush/maya i think it's generally quicker now)
2d or 3d, that is not the question!

oh and i forgot the essential about the workflow :
i wrote some script to render all layers separately (automatically!)
and composited in shake with a lot more freedom that way

btw i posted all my scripts everywhere on this site (i like to share them!)

hey Jorgy! all the anim was done in moho (with many custom scripts and a long preparation of alphas and textures in toshop) The letters just use dynamics and was the quickest part to do (thank you LM) As always i use big softwares for post production here shake for compositing and scenarist for dvd ...

yes big chances because i only used crossplatform libs which are available on mac linux and windows (and even irix etc..) namely SDL

But i don't have a mac so i cannot compile it under that platform... too bad
