I'd love to find an answer to this, but if not, totally fine. I just realized that I didn't need to have Groups within a Group in the first place. The entire setup works perfectly now that I've put all the layers within the one Group.

Anything you put into the same group can be masked by the same mask. Yeah, it must have been a bug or something, as it was only being applied to certain layers within the mask, even though, as far as I could tell, all the lower layers were set to "Add to Mask". But it's working fine now. ...
