Re: Big really hard project looming - planning?

Yes, extremely helpful, I'm going to be doing this method, and I've also looked into mesh layers which will make things a lot easier. Music is my main thing, actually, and I'd much rather score to the action that animate to the score, regardless of how well planned it is. I want to see how it looks ...

Re: Big really hard project looming - planning?

OK, this sounds doable. One issue with it though is that there will be no dialogue. I'm scoring it and doing the sound as well. I want to do the score only after the animation is done. But I still think it would be a good idea to build an animatic even without sound. Does this change your advice abo...

Re: FBF and bitmaps

OK thanks, these are good references. This was pretty much the approach I am planning on using, except that my cutouts will actually be .png line drawings, so IF there's a moment where the cutout style just doesn't get me the effect I want, I can cheat a bit and use traced vectors - she'll never know

Re: FBF and bitmaps

The originals are digital, and she's being careful about her layers so that she can export each individual object I need separately. The first shot is a city street corner seen from high up. There are buildings and a bus stop and cars and people walking and a girl crying and a bird in a tree. She ha...

FBF and bitmaps

I will be starting a project with storyboards and fully drawn characters already done. The artist does not want me creating new bitmap layers by tracing over her drawings, she wants the actual imported bitmaps to be animated. I do not have Moho 13 yet, so I have not worked with bitmap layers. I have...

Re: Big really hard project looming - planning?

Ah ok, like some ovals and triangles to represent the bird? The problem with sketching out the poses is that I'm not the artist, I'm just the animator, so anything I need drawn she has to draw. So then I suppose a solution could be to write them all down and then hand her my list and ask her to do s...

Re: Big really hard project looming - planning?

Good question. I took that to mean like making lists of all the different poses a character will have, and how many separate rigs that will require. I was thinking of making a table like this: Character Pose Rig Scene Spock Profile Vulcan salute Profile 12 Spock Profile laughing Profile 14 But maybe...

Re: Big really hard project looming - planning?

OK, I see. Fortunately I am thinking there is minimal camera movement going to be needed. After rigging, my biggest source of trepidation is to come up with the overall look and feel, and then figuring out how to translate that look and feel to Moho. We haven't determined how we're using color yet, ...

Re: Big really hard project looming - planning?

Got it. Couldn't I just mute the camera keys instead of moving them to the end? Also, why do I not want camera movements when I am animating?

Re: Big really hard project looming - planning?

This is good advice, thanks. Plan with camera movements, but animate without. (I often set the camera keys first, then shift them after end of scene, then animate characters, and shift back camera keys in the end.) I'm not sure I understand what you mean with this point. Shift them/shift back? Reall...

Big really hard project looming - planning?

Except for near the beginning when I went through most of a Udemy course on Moho, most of my time spent animating with Moho has been working on my own projects, either for fun or for animations for tutorials at my tech day job. This, for example, is a sample of the project i'm currently working on: ...

Re: Seamless scene splice

Separation is a good idea but if it would look like a 'single shot' - there must be an element which is visible throughout the shot? Instead of having the whole setup in each file, divide the elements or the groups by an appearance in the shot, render them individually and then patch 'em all in the...

Re: Switch transitions?

Not a simple solution, but what I do when I know there's a series of transitions: Create a group layer and make it fade in/out in the exact fashion I need. Multiply this layer. Move duplicates in time. Put my stuff inside. (Another solution in TVPaint which works well with still images: just stretc...

Re: Switch transitions?

I too would like to have this knowledge. Thanks for asking Jkoseattle. By the way Lab rat is way cool reminded me of Danny Elfman OingoBoingo. Nice video good music. Thanks for the kind words about Laboratory Rat! It's been compared to Oingo Boingo by others as well, and I would like to officially ...

Switch transitions?

I'm regularly thwarted in my desire to use a switch group because the transition between group members is too abrupt. So just because I'd like to have a 2-3 frame fade between switch members, I have to forego the switch group entirely and do all the transitions by hand. I assume there is no such thi...
