for how can i get the tips on how you have done it, have used switch layers or is there another method of how to do it

how can i make my own character appear to move in 3d for example making my bone rigged character to walk then stops for a while then make him/her to rotate showing his back and then to show his front profile.it will be helpful because that's my major problem while animating in blender
