Re: Masking trouble

Sometime I'll just duplicate the background layer on top of the character and mask that. I guess that's essentially what SlowTiger has recommended. If you don't want to duplicate the background, applying a mask like what he's drawn in red works directly on the character works well too. Other times, ...

Re: How to speed up my character rig?

Moho has generally been a very fast program for me but I've found it can slow down when I have a lot of large bitmap images I'm deforming with bones and meshwarp. Here are some tips for dealing with that. To helps reduce the CPU usage, I like to use vector layers for the shapes and outlines and use ...

Re: D.R. Greenlaw Demo Reel, 2019 Edition

Which reminds me... It surprising how much you can fake convincing 3D effects in Moho. For example, in the black & white car chase sequence, you might think there's a lot of 3D in it but the only 3D element is the car in the single shot when it turns around the corner. The truck, which looks 3D, is ...

Re: D.R. Greenlaw Demo Reel, 2019 Edition

I really like the felt animation. Love to know how you got the light shading on the blue felt character when he turns from side to side? That was an experiment I did way, way back during development. I created 'shading' layers for the character's body parts. The fuzzy texture is actually very flat ...

If I have a curved curve, is it possible to somehow get another curve equal to the size of my curved curve?
Maybe there is such a script ?
Can you illustrate what you mean? It's a bit unclear what you're asking for.

Re: Parent / unparent in place?

I agree with what Slow Tiger wrote: Don't scale your character layers. It's better to make all your art the proper scale to begin with and leaving the layers at 100% is the way to maintain that. If you're using vectors, scale the shapes instead. If you're using image layers, place them in groups, sc...

Re: D.R. Greenlaw Demo Reel, 2019 Edition

Looks Great Denis, I really like the Trolls fabric look. Thanks! The scrapbook elements were a lot of fun to make. The animation is mostly AE work with a bits of Moho and LightWave animations worked in for the more complicated stuff. Towards the end of the reel is an early Trolls 'Big Guy' test mad...

Re: Character Wizard

Sure. Glad to help. :) The way to think about a Reference layer is that it's basically a Duplicate that has all of the animation channels linked to the original layer's channels. As the channels get unlinked (because you keyframed them in the Reference layer,) the Reference layer becomes more like a...

Re: Character Wizard

What is the placement of the reference layer?Above or Below the Main character folder or, above or below the view layer if the view layer which one? I read the manual and the tutorials for reference layers but they don't mention this usage. Layer order shouldn't matter. As a matter of fact, the lay...

Re: Moving/mixing action references on timeline

Oh, I see what you mean. Kinda like mixing animation clips in Moho Builder to create new animations. In Moho, no, not really. The closest thing is pasting saved Actions directly to the timeline and then shifting the keys to mix motions, just as you're doing now. Moho does have a Sequencer, which dis...

Re: Advancing timeliine with arrow keys inserts keyframes

No, never seen that one before. Exactly what gets keyframed? Layer Transform? Shape? Bones? Is it consistent or completely random? I wonder if the selected item (a layer for example,) is being nudged somehow. Could you perhaps be accidentally pressing or bumping Ctrl when using the arrow keys? I can...

Re: Character Wizard

Reference layers work for that. If you flip a reference layer, the animation and any changes made to it should be a mirror image of the original. You have to be careful that you're editing only the original layer if you want the the reference to always match it. Once you add keyframes to the referen...
