one approach: in the action have the SB go from 0 to 720 (linear) over, say, frames 1 to 121. put the turn animation in frames 1 to 61 (linear!), looped from 61 to 2 (so that the SB will be at frame 62 when the turn animation skips back to 2) start with the SB set at 360 so you can rotate it in asce...

yeah - there was a flurry of activity on nested smartbone control a couple of years back -- e.g. one SB moving another SB that moves a third SB … or SB1 moves a target bone that SB2 follows … or layerscript that tracks SB1 and moves SB2 … etc -- bottom line: it doesn't really work.

IMO slowtiger's "fade / switch" between different images is a good idea... take a look at http://www.lostmarble.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=26304&p=149886&hilit=helicopter#p149886 for the fast rotation -- everything spinning is just a blur -- and eventually end up with the "actual" spinner turnin...

not totally clear to me what the problem you're facing is … the image uploads aren't clear enough to show the layer structure in enough detail. how many images in the L-> R turn sequence? smart mesh to make the turn? is it that the trunk wiggles when it shouldn't? is it that the three trunk views do...

first reaction to this is that "wind" is not a point source (so no Spread as such) unlike a fan (which obviously does). so for a wind simulation (rather than a fan), I'd address "spread" (and turbulence) by having many "source" bones that can operate independently (for turbulence) or in unison; and ...

instinct drives me away from a layerscript … interference with animated layer order, actual depth sort etc **might** cause problems. I'd probably adopt a semi-automatic approach - have a (manually invoked) tool script that scans the timeline, does a "sort by y" and then keys an "animated layer order...

I dug up an old AS9 (9.1 actually) and installed it. AMBS Creditz.anme opened without any problems.

Does sound like a re-install of AS might sort things out for you?

I can't imagine it's file or disk corruption because the upload is fine...

I'm assuming you're creating a still image? there's a function "InsertText" http://mohoscripting.com/methods/85 -- what you might consider is to use that in a loop along with CreateNewLayer(layerType) and param.Text:Set(n) where n is (text) number incremented each loop to create as many text layers ...
