I am still learning to draw, as well. One idea I am playing with is to create a 3D object in another program and import it into AS. Then I trace over the shapes with AS vector shapes, sort of like rotoscoping.

In additional to scaling, you can also play with the translate later tool, and move the whole 3D layer back.

Would it work to put a subgroups inside the main group?

What I mean is:

Main Group
Layer you want to stay still
Sub Group of layers you want to animate

Good progress. But also remember that your legs stay the same length, so the pelvis will be raised at the center transitional point (leg is straight up an down), and lower at the end and start points (leg is at a slant). Check out the bottom set of selgin's drawings, and notice how the body raises a...

The character designs are good, but I'd like to see more movement in all of your characters. I think if you add some subtle secondary actions you will breathe a lot of life in the piece. For example, on the wolf, you might try expanding his chest slightly before the howl, have him shift his weight a...

Looks pretty good. You could probably play with having the hair lag behind a bit on the movement, then when she stops it keeps going (because of intertia), then falls back into place (because of gravity).

Depends on how much hairspray she uses, really.

Hee, just thought of another idea. You have a pause when he picks up the "drawing thing" (marker? brush?, not sure). I kind of interpreted that as he was thinking what to do next. It might be fun to have him do something like tap his chin with the tool, like people do when they are thinkin...

Nicely done. Your character has a lot of charm for such simple shapes. One tweak I would suggest is more up and down motion of the main torso when walking, I think it would make the movement look less "slidy". When people walk, they leg and hip functions like an upside-down-pendulum. One f...

I like that idea a lot, and think it would work well with those fun characters.

Those look great. Neat trick. The first one especially looks like the sort of animation I want to learn to do (I'm a rank beginner).

Heh, I just "discovered" the split curve thingy last night. Man, have I got a lot to learn! I'll be curious to see if I experience the same trouble. I'd like to end up with characters with a rounded, old-timey feel, like the "rubber hose" animation from the 30's. Except maybe in ...

I have trouble with that, too, actually. I draw an ellipses, and then when I add points it goes all wonky. Is that what you experience? I'm trying to use the Preston Blair animation book as a guideline, and what I ended up doing was was making a "Guideline" layer that was basically ellipse...

Will he get annoyed if someone thinks he said "cosmetology"?

He's very cute. Oddly enough, I just posted something on a similar theme, but I just have gotten as far as the head.
